In the current business/political climate, where do you recommend is an optimum place/country for injection molding ? (China ? Singapore ? US ?)

    My requirements:
    a) Able to mold PPS (Solvay Ryton R4-242BL) to a mirror finish (high heat)
    b) Able to provide Ryton R4-242BL without outrageous tariffs.
    c) We will provide the mold (400K capacity)
    d) Must accept low volumes (2500k-5000k per quarter) or so.

    Hi Thomas,

Just going to see if we can assist on this. Sounds like it may be challenging for a number of reasons but at MPC we often talk of making the impossible, possible.

We are located an hour North of Toronto, Canada and are scientific injection molding specialists. If you can share a drawing and more on the application I would be happy to investigate and see what we can do. My direct email abird@mpccomponents.com. Can you share target pricing on these parts based on the quantities you indicate? In the meantime I will reach out to our material distribution and see what I can find out on that material grade.

    Regards,

    Andrew

Hi Thomas – Apologies for the delay in response. Are you still seeking a partner?

I have managed to confirm pricing/availability on this material and that we can run it.

Delivered to our facility we are seeing a 12 week lead time for initial inventory and an MOQ of 2200lbs. Pricing at $7.78USD/lb delivered at our facility in ON Canada. How is that comparing to your current situation?

Answering your initial question, the biggest risk (which looks to be ongoing well into 2022) is supply chain security as it relates to shipping. Container/transit costs have quadrupled depending on route and so regardless of the fragile material market that is also in play, or increased tariffs – its all for nothing if you cant get reliably get your product on schedule from your offshore suppliers. This will be further compounded by you desire to order/call off ‘low’ quantities, more shipping, more exposure, more risk.

If you are still seeking a scientific moulder who can deliver you parts from within North America we would be happy to quote this out for you. Please connect with me at abird@mpccomponents.com to avoid me missing a response.
